How It Works

Simulating altitude is no mystery. The air force has been doing it for years; training pilots to recognize the effects altitude has on their body in case of a malfunction in their oxygen masks. NASA trains pilots by pre-testing all their space flight equipment at very high altitudes to monitor their flight readiness. At Altitude Fitness LLC., we simulate altitude training in the same way using the same techniques and principles.

Altitude (al'-ti-tud) n, height, perpendicular elevation above sea level exhibiting a decrease in barometric pressure. [L.altitudo].

Vacuum (vak'-yoom) n. space devoid of all matter; space from which air, or other gas, has been almost wholly removed, as by air pump.

The Chamber is a mild Hypobaric Chamber, which can only be de-pressurized to 15,000 feet. It simulates altitude by means of a vacuum pump, which evacuates the air out of the airtight chamber at a constant rate. Manually adjusting the hand valve allows a certain amount of airflow into the chamber. This controlled rate of airflow into the chamber controls the inside pressure of the chamber. This lower, inside pressure is the same environment found as you ascend in altitude, except for the uncomfortable elements usually associated with climbing a mountain.
